Bloom where you are Planted
“Flowers always make people better, happier and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.” – Luther Burbank
Everyone loves flowers, right? They can’t help but make you smile. Stop and smell the roses and all that. In Orvieto, as in much of Europe, flowers are everywhere. The smallest windowbox has flowers. Walls have flowers. Roofs have flowers. Every nook and cranny is stuffed with flowers. And in case you don’t have a built in space for flowers, you can buy them at the market!
When you travel with Adventures in Italy, you will see flowers blooming in May, and giving way to fall in September. The differences are subtle, depending on the preceding season’s warmth and rain. Sometimes in May things are just beginning to bloom if spring is late.
I tend to gravitate toward the same flower spaces. I have my favorites! I could probably fill a wall with photos of the same windowbox taken each visit to Orvieto!
It’s a special treat when this lovely lady is sporting flowers. She sits in the entryway of our accomodation, Istituto San Lodovico.
And these last 2 are a couple of my favorites from a photography workshop with Catherine Anderson. Hers was the workshop I participated in my first time in Orvieto.
Through the lens I fell in love with Orvieto and have come to think of it as my home-away-from-home. The flowers are like a personal welcome each time I return.
Don’t stop beleafing!
