Anne & Kirk Woodyard – Music and Markets Tours
As many of our tour guests do, we arrive in Europe a few days before our tours start – such as this weekend when we fit in a couple of days in Amsterdam and stayed in a different part of town than we usually do. Still canal-side, as we love, right on the picturesque Brouwersgracht.
Arriving early in the morning from our transatlantic flight, we drop our luggage and head right to a nearby market on a sunshiney Saturday morning.
at Wintkel, right by the Noordermarkt? Saturday’s market is an Organic Farmer’s Market – excellent cheeses galore, of course!
with a little flea market on the side.
In between hitting my favorite shops on Kalverstraat and finding a few birthday presents, we just stroll and take in this city that we love – charming storefronts in the Nine Streets, an antique haven on Prinsengracht, welcoming windows overflowing with blooms.Bite-sized pastries from Petit Gateau on Haarlemmerstraat hit the spot – that jolt of sugar keeps us walking along the canals, fighting off any jetlag for a bit longer. Dinner and another canalside stroll (can’t miss those twinkly bridges at night!) and we’re off to bed.
Then we enjoy our Sunday – dodging the bikes as we cross one bridge after another.
Isn’t this a lovely facade – cream, vines and blooms? A floating lunch is just the right goodbye to this canal-laced beauty!
Why not join us in Amsterdam for a custom-designed tour, taking in just the sights, experiences, and tastes that you desire?
|The best way to describe us (Kirk and Anne Woodyard) is that we’re interested in the stories that make the places we visit come alive.|
We’ve visited Europe more times than we can count, learned some entertaining stories there, and met some warm and helpful people who also enjoy the wonders of music and life in Europe. We look forward to sharing these stories and friends and experiences with our Music and Markets guests.
Since 2003 we’ve hosted Music and Markets tours in France, Italy, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, England and Spain, and in 2019 added Wonder Tours with a more intentional concentration on art and architecture, local culture, food and wine, and less time dedicated to concert-going.We also design and host custom private tours – previous locations include many French, Spanish, British and Italian regions.
Between our music-related travels, we enjoy our home in the south of France. While both of us have experience in organizing travel and music groups, Kirk’s background is in project management and competitive writing, and Anne is an accomplished pianist with over forty years of teaching and performance experience.
Slow Travel Tours is an affiliation of small-group tour operators who offer personalized trips in Italy, France and other European countries.
