The Grape Harvest 

Fall is my favorite time of year. The weather is cooling down and everyone has renewed energy with the harvest of grapes for the Vendemia in late September.

Every town and village will be celebrating the grape harvest and always claim that their region produces the best wine, the best food, the best cheese, the best of everything! Festivals are everywhere where you will find the wine flowing and bites of food being passed around. One such town is Montefalco known for its Sagrantino. There are booths everywhere for wine tastings from the local vineyards. You pay a small fee, and they give you a wine glass and a little pouch to set your glass in as you enjoy strolling around sampling and I’m sure you will find yourself buying your favorite wines to bring home or ship.

The children are always involved in the celebration as the customs are passed from one generation to the next.

The Olive Harvest, which starts in late October is another very important time of year and “Labor of Love.” You can join us on our Olive Harvest Tour, where you pick olives with the locals, have a wonderful lunch with them, and then head over to the Frantoio, to see how the olives are processed into “Liquid Gold”. The fireplace is glowing with bruschetta being toasted so you can sample the fresh-pressed olive oil. Your tastebuds will thank you. This is just one day of our fabulous Olive Harvest Tour.
