My Travel Must-Haves
Everyone has their travel hacks, favorite travel clothes and recommendations. I’m always looking for the next best thing to make my travels more efficient, but for now here are my travel must-haves! You will always find me with these things on my trips with Adventures in Italy.
First thing on my checklist is a travel adapter/charger*. This one is great because you can use it almost anywhere in the world. It has a plug for your US things, and multiple USB and a USB-C spots to charge all of your devices. I have taken this little guy all of the world and it’s so much more convenient than trying to figure out which is the right plug and did I bring the right thing? This is an all-in-one that’s super easy to pack and will be the only adapter you need. *link provided by Journeywoman Things We Love

Allbirds shoes. So many choices of shoes and styles and levels of comfort. I swear by allbirds. I have a few pairs in different styles. My favorites for Italy are these white risers because they have a little platform (if you’ve met me you know why!) Allbirds are the kind of shoe that needs no breaking in, straight out of the box and onto my feet! When they get dirty just toss them in the washing machine.

A scarf. Any scarf will do, as long as it’s large enough to act as a wrap if you need to cover your shoulders, and compliments your travel wardrobe. I have a long, neutral colored scarf that I grab automatically when I’m packing. It pops into my backback (see next section) for the plane and is never far away for my entire trip. You never know when you might need a little wrap or a little extra coverage. If you like options you can always pack a couple of scarves, or plan to purchase one or two, but don’t leave home without one in your bag.

Backpack. I have had the same backpack for 20 years. Unfortunately, they don’t make this one anymore, and different people have different needs. For me, it’s important to have space for a water bottle on the side. I like having multiple compartments so it’s easier to find what I’m looking for. Thick, padded shoulder straps for extra comfort on those long travel days. Ideally, you want a bag that works for the plane and can double as a day pack for outings.

best backpack ever (for me!)
Travel sling. I have tried so, so many of these in a variety of sizes, but my favorite is THIS one from Lululemon. It’s perfect for the traveling part of your trip; it holds my passport, wallet, phone, chapstick, tissues, pen. Everything I need to get on the plane or train is close to my body, and easily accessible to me. Like with your backpack it’s largely a matter of personal preference, but I like to have just those few essentials right in front of me at all times. And then once I’m on the plane I can pop that sling into my backpack and not worry about it.

Finally, a raincoat or umbrella. Again, personal preference, I always have an umbrella. More compact to carry around when you don’t need it, and it covers me and my backpack, or me and my friend who didn’t read this and didn’t bring one!

an umbrella is essential

Useful and informative…great post!!
How does that adapter stay plugged in when several devices are connected to it? My experience with western European outlets is that the adapter falls out of a wall outlet. I’ve been known to make a stack of whatever, high enough to hold the thing plugged into the wall.
I find this one stays better, something in the design maybe? I have also had ones you need to manage, I’ve not had to do that with this one :)
