Crossing fingers and all being well, my first small trip starts here in Provence on June 11th. I have a second painting workshop booked for the end of June, so all being well Paint Provence with Tess will be up and running again.
The spring has been stunning here. I wonder if the unpolluted skies have helped nature get her breath back. My wildflower meadow is singing, my veggie patch is riotous, the honeysuckle is sublime, pungent jasmine soaks the air in heavenly scent, the birds are singing full throttle, they have usually left for the mountains by now. The vines are glorious in their spring green outfits, tendrils stretching skyward, the broom is yelling yellow! The poppies are glowing red and the lavender will soon be deep purple.
What more could an artist want?!
Perhaps a swim in the crystal clear lake of Saint Croix.
For me, nature is at her best in Provence in the months of May and June and September and October. I love taking my small painting groups (maximum 6 people) out on some of my favourite locations in the area. I have lived here since 1985 and love every minute of it. The markets, the medieval villages, the rolling hills, the growing forever. We have even been blessed with a few Cru Classé in the recent years, which is no mean feat, considering Cru Classé was set up for the Bordeaux and Burgundy wines. Provencal wines are entering a new phase of excellence.
We paint in Tourtour, whose views extend as far away as Saint Victoire and on a very clear day Montblanc.
We visit the splendid Commanderie de Peyrassol, where art has no limits set amongst the vines. In this beautiful old stronghold of the Knights Templar, we paint, enjoy art and even go for a trip around the vineyard in an old horse drawn carriage. Volcan is our giant cart horse and very sadly there are only six left in France so we are truly blessed to know him.
Our trip starts quietly with time for you to relax, unpack, swim and get ready for an early dinner, cooked to perfection by one of our chef’s.
This painting workshop is for beginners and more mature artists. It is fun for everyone, convivial, with beautiful locations. I teach about 5 – 6 hours most days. You learn everything from simple techniques, to perspective and composition. The food is fantastic and we cater to all your dietary requirements. It is not all travel and paint… there is time to relax and swim and make new friends.
For me it is the most enjoyable work I have ever done and I think it works as my lovely new friends keep coming back!
My early summer trips are full. I have space for the early September and October trips.
I am looking forward to introducing you all to this beautiful countryside and all that is gives… the amazing markets and Mediterranean food, the wonderful wine tasting, and of course the joys of painting.
I would love to see you soon…. visit my website Paint Provence with Tess to learn more.
