This past June Adventures in Italy and Bold Spirit Travel offered a new trip to Florence and Orvieto.  While in Orvieto, we had a wonderful pasta making experience with Eleonora at her farm, Agricola Janas.

Just a short drive from Orvieto, we were welcomed with homemade muffins and cake, and of course, coffee.

Then, to the pasta making!  We made two different kinds of pasta, one just with flour and water and the other with flour and egg. Each of us worked at our own station to make our dough.  Eleonora taught us how do use the force of our bodies to knead the dough instead of overworking it with our hands.

Time for the dough to rest, and for a tour of the farm.  Agricola Janas has fields of wheat, potatoes, chick peas and a cherry tree. Also chickens, bees, cats, and proud peacocks!

After letting our dough rest, we used a tool called a chitarra (guitar) to make our pastas. One side for spaghetti and one side for pappardelle.  The chitarra was such fun to use, and we were talking about how to get one at home!

Once the pasta was cut, our work was done. We settled in to the beautifully laid table to enjoy some locally sourced meats and cheeses, jam, homemade breads and chick peas from the farm, and our pastas.

Bellies full, it was time to say arrivederci to Eleonora and return to Orvieto.  What a wonderful experience.  Can’t wait to go back!
