Prague’s Cathedral within the Castle
Anne & Kirk Woodyard – Music and Markets Tours
Pradsky Hrad – Prague Castle – is visible from all over the city, gleaming in sunrise and sunset on Hradcany hill.
Let’s begin our visit at St. Vitus Cathedral in the third courtyard of the castle complex. The glorious windows of Alfons Mucha always capture the eye – that thoughtful praying boy,
those glorious Slav robes.
The cathedral alone can occupy hours of time, there’s so much to appreciate, such as this gilded relief Annunciation in one chapel.
The exquisite Golden Door façade is now fully visible after years of painstaking restoration.
Fourteenth century architect Peter Parler’s uniquely distinctive open vaults soar over the entry.
There are only a few pieces of furniture in the oldest castle rooms, such as this bookcase with land records from the 16th century.
A rider’s staircase, broad and shallow, enabled horsemen to ride up to the Great Hall.
Built into the walls of the castle is the fairytale- hued Golden Lane, where the alchymists of medieval King Rudolf’s day brewed their magic.Just a sampling of the delights of Prague’s castle complex to whet the appetite for more!

The best way to describe us (Kirk and Anne Woodyard) is that we’re interested in the stories that make the places we visit come alive.
We’ve visited Europe more times than we can count, learned some entertaining stories there, and met some warm and helpful people who also enjoy the wonders of music and life in Europe.
Between our music-related travels, we split our time between our homes near Washington DC and the south of France. We look forward to sharing these stories and friends and experiences with our Music and Markets guests.
While both of us have experience in organizing travel and music groups Kirk’s background is in project management and competitive writing, and Anne is an accomplished pianist with over thirty years of teaching experience, and a travel and food writer specializing in France and Italy.
