The View From Here
As part of every tour with Adventures in Italy, we spend an afternoon at Palazzone, a local vineyard. The view from here is spectacular, with rolling hills, green as far as the eye can see, and a look back at Orvieto perched on the rock.
The Dubini family purchased the property in the late 1960’s. They started producing wine in the 80’s. They have a full range of whites, reds and dessert wines. Owner Giovanni is still an integral part of the wine-making process. He’ll often stop by to say hello, his dog in tow. This is just one of the meaningful partnerships Adventures in Italy has cultivated over the years. Palazzone is the only vineyard we visit, and you’ll see their wine all over Orvieto. Their Orvieto Classico Superiore is my favorite! Many a guest has sent home wine to continue enjoying long after their week in Orvieto has ended.
Over the last few years, Maurizio has led our tours and tasting. He is charming, personable, and makes the tasting fun and not at all stuffy! When he talks about the grapes he always says: “Grapes are like people. Outside, we’re all different shapes and sizes but inside we’re all the same.” We taste four different wines to get a feel for the variety produced just steps from where we are tasting.
Our painting groups often take advantage of the setting and we head over a little early to paint outside before our tour begins. It’s a painter’s and a photographer’s dream! About the only thing that can tear the artists away from their craft in such a setting…WINE!
