We’re very pleased to welcome the newest member of Slow Travel Tours: Libje Cruises, owned by Ian and Jane Slade.
Originally from Scotland, Ian and Jane now live in Brittany, in northwest France. They offer customized barge trips for up to four people on the Nantes à Brest canal, which uses mainly existing rivers and passes through beautiful medieval towns and villages. This is a beautiful, less-discovered corner of France that still retains much of its Celtic heritage. The ‘Libje’ is an 80 foot converted barge, always accompanied by a minibus for excursions. The Slades offer the only crewed barge trip of its kind in Brittany.
The Slades started offering cruises in Brittany in 2009. Like all of our Slow Travel Tours owners, they have an interesting life story! They ran a B&B on the Hebridean island of Mull (Scotland) for ten years and earlier offered diving trips and yacht cruises around the Scottish islands, as well as a unique one-table on-board restaurant. (Jane is an award-winning chef, as well as a nurse!) They also used to run a furniture restoration business. On the Libje, Ian is the skipper/tour guide and Jane creates great dishes with a Breton twist.
Ian and Jane will be blogging with us on a regular basis, so be sure to watch for their posts beginning in March. You can also learn more about Libje Cruises on their website.
Welcome Ian, Jane and Libje Cruises to Slow Travel Tours!
Slow Travel Tours is an affiliation of small-group tour operators who offer personalized trips in France, Italy and other European countries. We’re all small business owners who manage and lead our trips ourselves. We believe in traveling more slowly and seeing what’s around you, immersing yourself in the local landscape, the history and culture, the food and the wine, and the people.
